AFC North Recap – Week 4

Pittsburgh Steelers (3 – 1)

The Steelers won 24-21 over the Vikings to take the first place in their division. They are now 3-1.

Pittsburgh was forced to play without Jaylen Warren, their top rusher. Warren had been sidelined due to a knee injury. The backup running back Kenneth Gainwell was given the opportunity to take the lead. The Eagles’ former fifth-round draft pick made the most of his opportunity, rushing for 99 yards on 19 carries and scoring two touchdowns. He also added another 35 yards in the air with six catches. D.K. Metcalf had an impressive day as well. The wide receiver caught 5 passes, resulting in 126 yards for the team and a touchdown. His highlight was a catch-and-run score of 80 yards. Through the Steelers’ first four games, the Aaron Rodgers to Metcalf connection was a huge success.

Pittsburgh, which led 24-6 in the fourth quarter and had a lead of just three points, was forced to hold off the Vikings’ strong rally, eventually winning by only three points. The Steelers’ defense went after Carson Wentz who is filling in as a replacement for J.J. McCarthy. They sacked the former No. 2 overall pick and journeyman quarterback. The Steelers defense sacked former No. 2 overall selection Carson Wentz six times, while intercepting him two more times.

Pittsburgh, who is currently leading the division in terms of wins and losses, will be looking to continue their winning streak once they return from their Week 5 bye.

Cincinnati Bengals (2-2)

The Bengals have not had a pleasant time without Joe Burrow. Cincinnati, a week after being beaten by the Vikings in Week 3, was once again beaten by the Broncos 28-3 on Monday Night Football.

The Bengals scored their only points in the game with a 260 yard Evan McPherson goal. Cincinnati’s offensive capabilities were severely limited when backup quarterback Jake Browning was at the helm. Browning, who stopped throwing interceptions in the Broncos game, completed only 14 passes for just 125 yards. He failed to get the ball effectively to his star wide receivers Ja’Marr chase and Tee Higgins. Together, the two receivers racked up just 55 yards from eight catches. The Bengals struggled on the ground as well, with only 53 rushing yard. Running back Chase Brown led the team with 40 on 10 carries.

Demetrius Knight, Jr., a rookie second-round linebacker from the United States, made his first career interception by intercepting quarterback Bo Nix. Knight led the team in tackles with 10, and he played through an injury to his leg he sustained early in the match.

Baltimore Ravens (1-3).

The Ravens’ season went from bad, to worse, this week. They were beaten by a series of injuries, and by the Chiefs, 37-20.

Baltimore’s team was decimated with injuries in Sunday’s thrashing. Cornerbacks Marlon Wiggins and Nate Wiggins, quarterback Lamar Jackson and left tackle Ronnie Stanley all had to leave the game. Jackson was struggling against the Chiefs’ defense, throwing an interception and losing the fumble before injuring his hamstring. Cooper Rush will start the Ravens’ next game against the Houston Texans if Jackson cannot play.

Baltimore’s offense has been struggling to run the football since Week 1 this season. And this Sunday was no exception. Justice Hill scored a 71 yard touchdown in late garbage time. Derrick Henry is yet to run for more than 50 yard in a single game after his 169 yards in Week 1. He has 42 yards on eight carries. Todd Monken, the offensive coordinator for the team, will be looking to his Hall of Fame running back Jackson and those blocking him if Jackson fails to extend time.

John Harbaugh confirmed that Madubuike was done for the season due to his neck injury. Baltimore’s defensive line was unable to create effective pressure again, only sacking Patrick Mahomes once. This brings their season total to just four sacks.

Cleveland Browns (1-3).

The Browns, a week after their stunning win over the Green Bay Packers were welcomed back into reality by a 34-10 defeat to the Detroit Lions.

Joe Flacco, the veteran quarterback, had a bad outing. He threw two interceptions in his last game as a starter. On Wednesday, it was announced that third-round rookie Dillon Gabriel would start the game against Minnesota next week. Quinshon JUDKINS, a second-round rookie runningback who has emerged in the last few weeks amid Cleveland’s sea of negativity, is one positive. On Sunday, the Ohio State star put up another impressive performance. He racked up 82 yards of rushing and scored a touchdown on 21 carries. Judkins will continue to be a focal point for the Browns’ offense, even with a rookie quarterback taking over.

Cleveland’s defensive unit has been among the best in the league during the first month of this season. However, the Lions offensive assault was too strong to contain. The Browns gave up 91 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries to running back Jahmyr gibbs, while giving up 70 yard and two scores to wide receiver Amon Ra St. Brown on seven catches. Denzel Ward, cornerback of the defense, intercepted quarterback Jared Goff’s deep pass intended for wide-receiver Jamison William in the third quarter.
