In Week 10, only one AFC North club won, while the Cincinnati Bengals had a bye.
Los Angeles Chargers 25-10, Pittsburgh Steelers 5-4. Sunday Night Football.
Aaron Rodgers’ Steelers offense struggled throughout the evening, only converting four out of 11 third-down attempts. D.K. Metcalf, the veteran quarterback, completed 16 of 31 pass attempts, resulting in 161 yards and one touchdown. He also had two interceptions. Metcalf’s three catches totaled 35 yards, down from the two catches he had a week earlier. Roman Wilson, who had 35 yards and two catches on the night, scored the only touchdown. Chris Boswell scored the final three points with a field goal from 59 yards. The normally reliable kicker’s 16-game streak of consecutive field goals was broken earlier in the match when he missed a 45 yard attempt. Jaylen Warren led the team in rushing with 70 yards from 14 carries.
Pittsburgh’s defense, despite sacking Justin Herbert 5 times, was unable carry the team to victory. Patrick Queen was the team’s top tackler with 12 total stops, while Alex Highsmith dominated the pass rush by recording two sacks. Former cornerback Jalen Ramsam continues to play safety along with Kyle Dugger who the Steelers acquired through a trade with the New England Patriots.
After losing three of its last four games, Pittsburgh has a mere one-game advantage in the division.
Baltimore Ravens win third straight game on the road with 27-19 victory over Minnesota Vikings. They are now just one game off.500, and lead the division.
Lamar Jackson managed the Ravens’ passing game well under pressure. It took a while for the Ravens to get started on Sunday, against a Brian Flores defense that was stingy. Lamar Jackson finished the game with 17 completions out of 29 attempts, 176 yards and one touchdown. He also had no turnovers. Baltimore’s offense continues to struggle with converting short-yardage situations at the ground. Todd Monken had to be creative to convert multiple third downs this week, including a pass from Mark Andrews on a fake push to Jackson. Zay Flowers, the team’s top receiver, had 75 yards from four receptions. Derrick Henry was the team leader on the ground after gaining 75 yards in 20 carries.
The Ravens’ improved defense was the story of this game and the last three weeks. Since the Week 5 loss against the Houston Texans, this unit hasn’t allowed more than 20 in a single game. Dre’Mont Jones made an impressive debut a week after joining the Ravens via trade. Travis Jones was the only Baltimore player to record a sack, but the pass rush as a whole produced plenty of pressure throughout the game on J.J. McCarthy. The Ravens have had a lot of turnovers in the last three weeks. Malaki Starks and Marlon Hushprey both intercepted McCarthy, while Keondre jackson forced a fumble and recovered it on special teams.
In Week 10, the Cleveland Browns fell to 2-7 after a loss of 27-20 to the New York Jets.
The Browns didn’t make any changes to their quarterback during the Week 9 bye. Dillon Gabriel, a rookie third-rounder, remained as the starter for Sunday’s game. He finished with 17 completions out of 32 attempts, 167 yards, 2 touchdowns and no turnovers. Kevin Stefanski said that he would keep Gabriel as his starter after the game. However, the cries of fellow rookie fifth-rounder Shedeur Shaders will get louder and louder with every loss. Quinshon Judkins, a rookie, led the rushing offense with 22 carries and 75 yards.
In the first quarter, 14 of the Jets 27 points were scored by special teams. First, a kickoff was returned for a score to tie the game at 7-7. After a three-and out from Cleveland, New York recovered a punt for 74 yards and scored a touchdown. They now lead 14-7. The Browns defense kept the Jets at bay for most of the game, until Breece hall scored a 42-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter on a screen from Justin Fields. The rookie Carson Schwesinger was the defensive leader with 10 total tackles. Ronnie Hickman had an interception, which was Cleveland’s lone takeaway.
